Fix Copilot Sidebar Microsoft Edge On Linux: Fedora & Mint

BACKGROUND

I am a Copilot enthusiast who always uses Microsoft Edge across different operating systems to enjoy the Copilot panel. However, when trying it on Linux (Fedora and Mint), the Copilot panel could not be accessed. This situation is quite confusing because on Windows the feature works perfectly without any issues.

DISCUSSION

Investigation revealed that a component is missing on Linux, namely HubApps. This component is an essential part that enables the Copilot panel to appear in Microsoft Edge. Without HubApps, Edge on Linux cannot display the Copilot panel as it normally does on Windows.

  1. Copy HubApps from Windows
    Windows path

    C:\Users\{computer-name}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

In this folder, you will find HubApps that can be copied.
  2. Paste into Linux
    Linux path:

    ~/.config/microsoft-edge/Default

    Paste the HubApps here.
  3. Important Note
Make sure Microsoft Edge is closed before copying. After pasting, reopen Edge and the Copilot panel should be accessible again.

If you do not have access to Windows to copy HubApps, you can download it from the backup provided (version 148.0.3967.83).
HubApps Backup

CONCLUSION

The issue with the Copilot panel in Edge on Linux is not a major bug but rather the absence of HubApps. By copying HubApps from Windows or using the backup version, then placing it in the Edge configuration folder on Linux, the Copilot panel can function normally again. For Linux users who want to continue enjoying Copilot in Edge, the solution is simple: copy HubApps, paste it into Linux, and enjoy Copilot just like on Windows.
